I believe that: Because of our sinful nature (Ro 3:23), we are prisoners in chains, unable to experience the fullness of God's love and the abundant, meaningful life He promises us. Only through Jesus Christ can we come to live the "life that is truly life" (Jn 10:7-10, 1Ti 6:17-19). God demonstrated His perfect love (1Jn 4:9-10) for us by sending His only Son to be born in a filthy manger (Lk 2) and to die a humiliating death on a cross (Mt 27) so that our sins may be forgiven -- so that we may be set free (Ps 107:10-21). If we place our faith in the saving grace of God and not in the uncertain things of this world, He will make us into new creations, capable of knowing Him and Jesus Christ, whom He had sent (Jn 17:3).
